KadAfrica is the alliance between a business and an NGO
our mission
To increase knowledge, agricultural productivity, and income of smallholder farmers in East Africa
We do this by:
delivering skills, knowledge and resources to last-mile farmers
guaranteeing access to formal markets while reducing the number of intermediaries
To remove additional barriers for youth and women to access economic opportunities
We do this by:
focusing our outreach primarily to youth below 35
delivering additional holistic training on sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy; so women and girls reach their full potential
our farmers
SMALLHOLDER FARMERS
Our smallholder farmers are men and women, from local and refugee communities.
OUT OF SCHOOL BENEFICIARIES
KadAfrica works with out of school girls and young women in Kabarole District in Western Uganda. Girls are between 14 and 24 years old.
REFUGEE BENEFICIARIES
Uganda is currently hosting more than 1.3 million refugees and continues to receive new arrivals. 70% of refugee households rely on humanitarian food distribution as their main source of food. KadAfrica is different from most livelihood programs, as we offer access to a guaranteed market. KadAfrica is engaging more than 3,000 refugees across Ugandan refugee settlements.
We pledge
That growing our business means growing our impact and the number of farmers we can work with
GOING THE EXTRA MILE To SUPPORT YOUNG WOMEN
The KadAfrica Experience is a cycle of increasing impact that builds girls’ skills and agency, so that they are able to realize their rights, determine their life outcomes, and influence decision making in households and communities.
The kadafrica experience
The KadAfrica Experience was launched in 2015. The model includes an age and gender-specific curriculum and complimentary family programming and advocacy component. It provides learning opportunities for out of school girls and young women. Training sessions coupled with land access and the direct establishment of an agribusiness and a guaranteed market ready for 100% of the cooperatives’ production.
We enroll girls in farming cooperatives and equip them with the knowledge, skills, and resources to begin their own farms.
our 3-part TRAINING SESSIONS
AGRICULTURE
Our agricultural sessions is a tailor made ”Earn as you Learn” approach, aimed at improving girls’ access to income through farming. Each girl within the program receives a farm start-up kit, and access to land.
LIFE SKILLS & BUSINESS ACUMEN
Life Skills sessions are designed to build girls’ competency within gender, sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), entrepreneurship, and advocacy. Life Skills are crucial for female participants’ success as small farmers within the challenging context of Uganda’s patriarchal economic practices.
FINANCIAL LITERACY & SAVINGS
Each cooperative set up their own savings groups, where they can also take up small loans and earn interest. They receive financial literacy training that imparts the value of savings and planning for the future.
