2019 IMPACT RESULTS
Significant change
Ester Basemera was 22 when she joined KadAfrica in August 2016. Ester harvested 819 kg of passion fruit on her KadAfrica plot within her first year, earning a total income of $377. This is 10 times higher than the average salary for young Ugandan women.

ESTER BASEMERA’S STORY
Ester was born in Nyakasanga, Uganda. Her parents separated when she was 8. Her mom moved away, and Ester was staying with her father. Ester had 3 brothers and sisters, two of them passed away at a very young age.
Although she lived outside of the household, Ester’s mom managed to work and provide her with 6 years of primary school before she passed away. Because her father had passed away 2 years prior, Ester moved in with her grandmother and eventually began staying at the house of the headmistress of her school. It was in this period of adolescence that Ester met the father of her children.
But Ester wasn’t satisfied with her life. Her husband didn’t know how to plan for money; he would handle it carelessly, generally had no life plans, and he would spend frivolously instead of putting savings aside for their four children. Ester felt that she was just wasting her youth compared to the girls she went to school with, and yet believed she could make on her own while providing a better life for her children. So, she left her husband and later joined KadAfrica.

KadAfrica has worked with more than 2,300 at-risk youth in Uganda. Between 2018 and 2019, a total of 143 girls and young women were enrolled to begin their journey with the KadAfrica Experience. You can now download our latest impact report, and see the amazing results these young women have achieved up until now.
MEASURING IMPACT
KadAfrica has a strong desire to track the impact of our programming by conducting pre- and post-KAP surveys with all KadAfrica beneficiaries. The pre and post questionnaire focuses on gathering knowledge, attitudes and practices around key program outcomes,in particular regarding sexual health and rights, livelihood, and income.
